Katy Strande, PLMHP PhD.

From an early age, Katy knew she was going to help others. After completing her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology at Tarleton State University (Texas), she worked for a non-profit organization treating kids and families. A few years later, she moved to the University of Kansas to complete her PhD in Health, Sport, and Exercise Psychology (Rock Chalk!). At KU she helped athletes improve their performance academically and athletically and is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant. Additionally, as a group fitness instructor (since 2013), Katy believes in the power of physical activity. She has published research and presented at national conferences on how moving the body affects thriving and mental wellbeing.

Katy believes in a holistic and positive psychology approach where behaviors are changed and maintained based on one’s strengths, according to their personal situations. She takes a client-centered approach whereby she listens to clients’ wants, needs, and goals. Once rapport and understanding are established, the work begins! While digging deep to find meaning in situations, Katy helps clients learn skills to maintain and increase overall health, such as mindfulness, boundaries, goal setting, and emotional regulation.
